I need a carb for my 71 dt1 250, and wanted to get a better one than the stock 28mm? i think?, will a yz or mx 250 carb work if they will what size are they, and what years interchange, or should i look for something else. thanks any information would be appreciated.

the stock carb on a 71 DT1 is 26 mm.I had a 1970 DT1 back in 82-83 and i put a carb off of a 72 suzuki ts 250 which was a 28 mm carb on it.after playing with the jetting and getting it right I found absolutely no power increase at all.in fact it seemed to loose a good bit of power.if you are looking for more power one way is getting a bassani, torque engineering or hooker pipe, maybe a clean and match port job or getting a cylinder from a DT2 which is reedvalved and dt2's came with 28 mm carbs on them stock.i believe the dt1 mx came with a 30 mm carb but im not 100% sure.a stock dt1 piston port motor will not respond well to just a larger carb, with porting maybe but not in sttock form.

go with the expansion chamber.
You can also hunt down a gyt kit head or a webco head if you can find one.
